Author Talk: Laurie Gwen Shapiro In-Person
Amelia Earhart may have been one of the bravest and most daring women in history, but some of her more treacherous stunts revealed the influence of her husband, George Putnam, the “PT Barnum of publishing,” who often pushed his authors—and his wife—to extremes in the name of publicity. Join professor Laurie Gwen Shapiro for a peek behind the curtain at an American icon and the story of the complex marriage that helped shape her career.
Laurie Gwen Shapiro is an award-winning documentarian and journalist, adjunct professor at The NYU Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute, and author, most recently, of The Aviator and the Showman: Amelia Earhart, George Putnam, and the Marriage that Made an American Icon.
