Bernardo de Gálvez and Spain's Role in the American Revolution – What You Were Never Taught in School, a CTGS Program In-Person

Join us for a presentation by José (Joe) L. González, Governor of the Granaderos y Damas de Gálvez-San Antonio Founding Chapter livestreamed via Zoom, highlighting the pivotal role of Bernardo de Gálvez, Governor of Spanish Louisiana, and his crucial support for the American Revolution. Before Spain officially entered the war, Gálvez secretly supplied American Patriot forces with money, weapons, medicine, uniforms, and safe passage along the Mississippi River to aid leaders such as George Washington and George Rogers Clark. After Spain declared war on Great Britain in 1779, Gálvez led successful campaigns that captured all five British garrisons, terminated British control of the Gulf of Mexico, eliminated the possibility of Washington's southern front being attacked, and helped secure Spain’s return of Florida through the Treaty of Paris.
