Storytelling Through Genealogy, a CTGS Program In-Person
This month’s speaker, Bevil Smith Cohn became interested in how her school, Bell’s Hill got its name. A school volunteer, Champe Fitzhugh, did the initial research. Bevil has told the story to the classes at Bell’s Hill so that the students will know the history of their school. The story is told from the perspective of Sallie Bell, whose husband, J.D. Bell drilled the first artesian well in Waco. This event was very influential in the development of Waco before 1900.
Sallie Bell has a story to tell!
